Our Story
How We Met
They first crossed paths in a cramped study room at UT Southwestern—and honestly, fate was doing its own scheduling: Vishruth hadn’t been slated to join Soumya’s year at all, having taken a couple of gap years to dive into lab research after undergrad. Yet here he was, quietly slipping into Soumya’s friend circle with well-timed lab jokes and an offer to proofread everyone’s notes. His cleverest move? Volunteering for airport runs whenever anyone had travel plans. Those back‑and‑forth drives became their private giggle sessions—playlist swaps, shared snack packs, and half‑serious debates about who packed better. By the time Soumya realized she was looking forward to every ride, she also realized that this research‑year wildcard had already driven his way straight into her heart.
The Proposal
There’s fast, and then there’s Vishruth. By December of 2024, he had the house‑buying paperwork signed and sealed with both families’ blessing. Then the next spring, he surprised Soumya with a getaway to see the famous D.C. cherry blossoms. He’d secretly invited her parents to join, hidden among the crowd of tourists. As they wandered beneath the pink canopy, he casually dropped to one knee, pulled out a ring, and asked, “Want to make this thing official?” With petals drifting and laughter all around, Soumya’s happy yes was the perfect punchline to his best‑planned surprise.
Our Journey Together
Between pounding out grant proposals and racing toward research deadlines, Soumya and Vishruth have learned to carve out quiet joy: impromptu movie marathons, hummus‑and‑veggie feasts, and celebrating even the tiniest wins. They’ve lost at most board games and Mario Kart more than they’d care to admit, and that marathon training? Well... they’re still working on it 😄. But every stumble only deepens their laughter.
